Today we got up around 8am, knowing this should be the hardest day of the trip. After eating and packing, we got underway. My pack felt uncomfortable at the start, and I was trying to figure out if it was the pack or I. When we stopped 1.5 hours later, Tom asked if he could take the rope. Apparently I didn’t look very good. I give him the rope and repacked. What a difference those 8 pounds make. I could fly.
We traveled to a spot a hundred meters above the valley floor for another stop just under an hour later, and talked about what we wanted to do. Jack, Dan, and Tom ate lunch while the rest of us left our packs to scout the route options to get to the other side of the glacier coming down from the left.
We met back at the rest stop, picked up our packs, and found it was much easier to get across than we expected. We found a great campsite in about an hour. In the next 5 to 25 minutes the others strolled in and set up camp next to the clear running stream.
I messed around a bit before rushing to unpack before a light rain hit. We were on the edge of a localized heavy storm cell and could have been dumped on. It passed slowly, and it looked like the clouds were going to be with us for a while. Not bad given the great weather so far during our trip. An hour later we made our dinners. Off to bed and tomorrow we do it all again.
